Reality TV Under Covers
July 6, 2011 at 9:02 am 0
Bethenny-Ever-After I'm a reality tv buff - which is kind of funny considering: - I don't have a tv - I really don't enjoy/don't have any drama and gossip in my life - my life is pretty "real" But after a long day of working, exercising, and doing daily errands, there's just something wonderful about zoning out and watching silly tv. When it's time to watch tv I usually hunker down in my bed, turn on my laptop, put in my earphones and watch away getting totally involved in what's going on with the characters - and in the case of particularly cringe-worthy shows reeling with pain when I see some of the more ridiculous stunts. My current faves are: - Tori & Dean - Bethenny Ever After - Real Housewives of Orange County (RHOC) My husband thinks it's horrendous that I watch such silliness - it's not adding anything to my life, and these women (particularly on RHOC) are sooooo poorly behaved amongst each other, have terrible manners/attitudes toward the general public, aren't very smart and well, they are such jealous bitches of each other! But, for me I just I enjoy. And, since I really don't have any people in my life and circle of friends that aren't lovely, smart, loyal, honest and motivated in their own right...I guess I don't have to worry that my life will ever be like RHOC!

Free Metric Concert in Union Station, Toronto
August 3, 2010 at 4:57 pm 0
Metric That's right. What's better than free stuff in the city in the summer? According to the Toronto Star Metric is putting on a free show this Wednesday, August 3rd at 7pm at Union Station. Here's the full story directly from the Toronto Star Entertainment Reporters Ben Rayner and Bruce DeMara: Hot Canadian rock band Metric will play a free concert outside Union Station on Wednesday night. Samsung Mobile announced the show on Tuesday without naming the band. But a source within the band’s camp confirmed Metric was it. “It’s true. It’s all happening. It’s not really a big secret or anything.” And details of the event — going down at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Union Square Plaza — were leaked via Twitter and readily available online mere hours after Samsung started dropping hints on its own Twitter feed. One clue read: “I wonder who this band is going to be? Is it The Beatles or could it be the Rolling Stones?” That brings to mind Metric’s hit song “Gimme Sympathy,” which includes the lyrics, “After all of this is gone / Who’d you rather be? / The Beatles or the Rolling Stones?” Apparently, the only reason Metric’s identity was kept secret was to appease city officials worried that a giant crush of people would wind up on Front St. That will almost certainly be the case now that the cat’s out of the bag. Drivers, you’ve been warned.

Seven Ways to Have Free Summer Fun
August 5, 2009 at 6:00 pm 0
Summer is here and it’s time to get active and enjoy the good life – but with this still slow economy some of us are not feeling like celebrating the change of seasons. Turn that frown upside down, there are several ways to enjoy summer fun for free this year.

1. Go to local festivals and street parades. In almost all towns and cities there are several free events around town that are fun to watch and cost nothing. My favourites are the jazz festivals, sandcastle contests and street parades. Instead of saying “oh I’d like to do XXXX this summer” or “we should go to XXXX this summer” put it on a list and get ‘er done! You’ll have summer memories that will last a lifetime. 2. Make outdoor picnics. You have to eat meals anyways, so make them into events and have them in local parks or at the beach. It will be a great way to enjoy the outdoors and you can also invite friends and family to join for extra fun. 3. Take regular after dinner walks in different neighbourhoods. I love the routine of tidying up quickly after dinner and just taking a nice stroll in a new area. It helps me clear the day out of my head and learn about a new neighbourhood. 4. Volunteer at a local charities special event this summer. You will be helping out the community, feeling good about yourself and maybe making some new friends. Success!

5. Become an outdoor photographer. Most of us have cameras and all the tools we need to discover a new hobby like photography so use it! Learn on the internet (free!) how to take great photos and use your newly acquired talents. When it’s chilly in the winter you can spend your time indoors organizing your photos into albums. 6. Visit all the local art galleries in your area. Free and oh so cultured! 7. Learn about astronomy and study the night sky. I love the idea of sitting outside, watching the stars, and dreaming of far off places – can it get more tempting?
