On our recent trip to Greece so many people were amazed that we were taking an unconventional trip with our one year old. After all, an all-inclusive trip would have been much easier, right? But I rarely go for easy, and I really wanted some adventure, so Greece it was!

Here are my travel lessons I learned that can make for an easy & enjoyable European vacation with kids:

The Ikea Monkey Returns
June 18, 2013 at 10:33 am 0
When I was on a ferry from Mykonos to Santorini on our Greece family vacation, I had an episode of the Ikea Monkey Returning Me, my husband, and my daughter were all sitting next to each other. When the ferry took off, we realized there were a lot of empty seats, and my husband wanted to take a nap, so he layed out and we went to the empty row in front of him. We played, and read a book, and did lots of things you do to keep a one year old entertained on a boring ferry ride, and then she just couldn't take it anymore and need to crawl around. I'm pretty relaxed, so I let her scramble along the floor and meet the other ferry patrons (including a French lady who kindly let her eat all her cookies and play with her jewelry). This lasted about 45 minutes. Then it was time to go back to our seat. When I went back, there was a man sitting in our place, and the monkey and box of wipes I had left behind were gone. My husband was sleeping soundly in the row behind, so he didn't see anything, and he definitely didn't have our goodies. What was I to do? So, we marched up to the store on the ferry, and I asked if they had a lost and found. The conversation went like this. me: Do you have a lost and found? ferry guy: yes. me: I've lost my daughter's monkey. Have you seen it? ferry guy: Was it alive? me (looking very confused): Oh, Ikea Monkey! No, it's a stuffed toy. ...... Luckily, they had our *stuffed toy* monkey and box of wipes, we all laughed, and then I went back to our seat, where my husband was still napping. 3 Must Visit Places in Greece

I have wanted to go for Greece for about 20 years, so when Air France had a ticket sale this past winter (and it was -20C in Montreal), I jumped on the opportunity, and booked a ticket for our family holidays for me, my husband, and the freebie tickets kids under 2 get (for our daughter Sephora).

I searched online for greece vacations, read family holiday travel guides and quickly came up with a Greek travel itinerary for what we were going to do for 17 days in Greece, with a one year old on board.
