Dreamy Outdoor Summer Dining
July 9, 2010 at 10:08 am 0

summerdinnerparty

One of the best thing about summer evenings is the warm air, sweet smells, and relaxed ambience that lets everyone sit back, enjoy a meal together, and linger for just a bit longer. So figure out when your next free evening is, call your closest friends, and have them over for a lovely dinner party. It's just so much more intimate than going out for dinner...and since we're all working our buns off so we can live a great life, let's make sure we are actually living a great life! We found this great recipee in Country Living and just couldn't resist sharing it with you.

Warm Garlic String Bean Salad For Warm Garlic String Bean Salad, blanch a 1-pound mix of yellow and green string beans for 2 minutes. Rinse to cool. Return to a saucepan with 3 tablespoons olive oil, 1 tablespoon butter, 3 tablespoons minced garlic, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and a 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Cook 4 minutes (medium-high heat). Toss in 2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley and 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest. Serve warm. Pasta with Garden Tomatoes and Fresh Mozzarella Pasta with Garden Tomatoes and Fresh Mozzarella is redolent with gently sautéed onion and garlic, which beautifully offset perky chopped tomatoes, basil, and cubed mozzarella. Sliced Grilled Rib-Eye Steak Marinade takes just minutes to prepare but adds a lot of flavor. Whisk 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar and 6 tablespoons olive oil together in a large nonreactive baking dish. Add 1/3 cup chopped Vidalia onion, 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme, 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Rib-eye steaks' primary attribute is their juicy flavor, making them great for grilling. Place four 12-ounce, 1-inch-thick boneless rib-eye steaks in the marinade and refrigerate for 1 hour; turn occasionally. The grill should be heated to medium-high. Shake onion bits from the steaks and grill until medium-rare — about 5 minutes — or longer if desired. Serve the steaks, thinly sliced, after resting them (tented with aluminum foil on a cutting board) 10 minutes. Leftovers make great lunchtime sandwiches the next day. Photo Credits: Country Living

Friendship Breakups Are Good For You
May 11, 2010 at 11:37 am 5

I love being positive, but one of the funny things about being positive is that you usually have to cut through the negatives to get there. Something that really helped me to move to a great place in my life was by unfriending a few people. The true sign of an overdue friendship is when you know your friend does not have your best interests in mind. It could be subtle - like they call you and tell you gossip they heard people say about you, and they know it hurts your feelings - or major - like they have serious jealousy issues and you always feel like you’re in a competition instead of a friendship. Another sign of a overdue friendship is when you don't think your friend adds anything positive to your life. We've all had these people around us at some point, like the person who calls you to complain, and goes on for one hour, without asking how you are. We have friends to enrich our lives. If you surround yourself with people that suck away your good energy, you are only left with the negatives.. Remeber that saying, "Show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are"? Friends are a representation of us - from value systems to senses of humour - and I make sure I chose mine very wisely now. And that’s one of the little changes in my life that has made a huge difference overall.

Party time:Getting to know you – again
October 19, 2009 at 12:45 pm 0
I’m finally doing it! There is something I’ve been meaning to do for ages, but never manage to get around to. I even made it a monthly goal...only to let the month slip by without doing it. But not this month. I’m actually going to have a party and reconnect with my “lost” friends! Over the last year I’ve been working like a donkey, and spending a lot of time with my fiancé, so I haven’t been out and about socializing. Some of my friends have fallen through the cracks a bit. To change things I’ve decided to host a party and get to know everyone all over again. We can sip wine and eat cupcakes and chit chat all night long. Lost friends no more!

What to be for Halloween?
October 16, 2009 at 12:02 pm 1

Halloween is the best holiday! Everyone gets to be silly and put on another personality. Last year was my first glimpse into the full fun of Halloween here in Toronto. To prepare for the celebrations I had a group of girls over to my apartment. We had pre-drinks, and got dressed up together. There was a devil, a Marilyn Monroe type, a Mogatu garbage bag fashion fan, a club kid, Bat girl and Pippy Longstocking(me).

Walking through the halls and down the elevator in my building everyone was dressed up! There was Obama and Sarah Palin’s everyone. But the best costume was this guy dressed up as an ob tampon! When we went out the streets and clubs were filled with costume clad partygoers. At one of the clubs there was a pack of 30 year old guys dressed like boy scouts complete with matching backpacks, pulled up socks and nerdy glasses. It was hilarious!

This year there seems to be an extra buzz about Halloween. Maybe it’s the bad economy that makes everyone want an escape but there’s lots of chatter about this years Halloween costumes, and plenty of parties planned. But I still don’t know what to dress up as!

Fall Cleaning:Rid Yourself of Stress and Find Balance in Your Life
October 5, 2009 at 10:29 am 0

Like most career girls, there comes a time in life when you step back and take inventory or your life, health and everything else. For too many women when their career takes off their health and wellbeing suffers. Does this routine sound familiar? 1. Go to work at around 9 am every day 2. Sit down all day 3. Buy something convenient, and unhealthy for lunch 4. Get home 5. Continue working 6. Eat a convenient dinner as fast as possible 7. Continue working while watching tv 8. Spend a few minutes around the house before going to bed If that's you it's time to put some balance in your life and get healthy! 1. Find Balance Between Work and Life. Set aside work free times when you are enjoying your friends, family and relaxing. 2. Get Some Exercise Everyday. Instead of meeting up with your friends for dinner have exercise dates. Make sure you spend a minimum of 30 minutes being active everyday. 3. Avoid Regular Restaurant Meals. The amount of salt and fat in your food will creep up on you slowly. Restaurant meals should be treats, not daily occurences. 4. Think Before You Drink. Many beverages are hidden calorie bombs - read labels and make sure you know what you are drinking. If you are thirsty water is your best choice. If you want a treat proceed with caution before sabotaging your diet. 5. Enjoy Your Down Time. Reduce stress and remind yourself of the simple pleasures in life - relax and unwind in your favourite healthy way. 6. Prioritize Your Life. Too often we spend most of our time responding to the latest crisis instead of living consciously. Step back, remind yourself what's most important, and plan accordingly. Make sure you are spending the majority of your time with things that matter to you most. 7. Enjoy The Fruits of Your Labour! You have worked hard to get to this point in your life, and there's no point in continuing if you can't enjoy it. Stop thinking about what you don't have, and embrace all the great things you do have. Don't sweat the small stuff...it really doesn't matter. You've worked too hard to have a lost button or cancelled plan ruin your day. Start Enjoying!

Down to Zero
June 25, 2009 at 9:34 am 0
Last year I had some major changes in my life. One of the most important was getting out of debt. I remember when I received my tax return...... and lo and behold I took all of it and put it onto my line of credit, which suddenly was down to ZERO! It had taken me one year to turn this $-9,000 animal into a ZERO, but it finally happened. I was so thrilled with myself. I kept on checking my online balance and seeing it at ZERO. I couldn't wait to call my friend and tell her that finally, I was down to ZERO!
