When I started doing this detox cleanse I wasn’t really sure what we were going to eat. Well it turns out we’ve been eating healthy, filling and fresh meals…not to mention super affordable. And we’ve been loving it!
Since I’m all about convenience in the kitchen I try to bulk buy ingredients, and cook and prep as much as I can ahead of mealtime. It saves a ton of time. Avoids any temptation. And makes lunch (our one meal per day while on the cleanse) a total breeze.
This shopping list is based on the Clean diet from Dr. Alejandro Junger. The basic philosophy is to heal your body through what you eat.
Here’s our basic detox diet grocery list:
- hormone & antibiotic free chicken breast
- wild Atlantic salmon
- organic brown rice
- green beans
- chick peas (canned)
- white kidney beans (canned)
- Ontario garlic
- purple onion
- Kalamata olives (or your other favourite olives)
- Unsweetened vanilla flavoured almond milk
- coconut milk
- raw unsalted cashews, pecans, almonds, and filberts (or whatever your favourite mixed nuts)
- cold pressed olive oil
- sea salt
- black pepper
- ground mustard powder
- loose leaf jasmine tea
*assume any fruits, vegatables & herbs are fresh and not frozen or dried.
If you look at this list closely you’ll see a few things that are not on this list, that you’re probably buying every week at the grocery store. I know I am.
There’s no processed food. No refined sugars. No wheat or wheat products. No red meat or pork. No coffee. No wine. No dairy.
But you know what? I actually don’t miss them at all!
